METAL SMITHING AND METAL CLAY CLASSES
Classes in my studio are generally limited to three people. You can register or schedule classes by contacting me at studio @ donamiller.com or 406.210.0526. Watch here for upcoming classes or contact me with your interests.
For more advanced classes, these are often taught one on one in my studio. So if there is a specific technique you want learn, or specific project you want help on, let me know and we can get that scheduled too.
I am currently only scheduling classes by request in my studio.
YOU CREATE SESSIONS
If you have a specific project you would like to create, a wedding band, earrings with the beautiful stones you found at a gem show… We can do that too. These are generally scheduled as private sessions where I help you through the project, earning the skills specific to your project. Contact me at studio @ donamiller.com.

Basic Metal Smithing – May 2
In this one day class you will learn how to: cut and pierce with a jewelers saw; use hammers to texture metal with all sorts of material, including stamps, wire, and even lace; and create cold connections using rivets and eyelets. You will use these skills to cut designs in sheet metal, texture the metal and make connections to create at least one pendent. We will be working with copper and silver.
Finishing and Polishing – May 9
Learn how to make a professional statement with your jewelry. In this class you will learn how to use a flex shaft or Dremel to remove scratches, refine edges and surfaces, and to polish the metal to make it shine using a high polish finish. Your kit will include attachments for your Dremel or Flex Shaft so you can quickly add the skills to your work.
Bezel Set Ring – May 30
Do you love interesting cabochon stones and rings? In this class you will learn how to create a ring for a large cabochon. Learn to select the correct size bezel wire, create and size the bezel to a cabochon, adjust the height of the cab, and set the cab with a clean, finished look. Cabochons will be provided for class projects. Students are welcome to bring in their own stones to class.
Intro to Soldering – June 6
Learn the basics of soldering to demystify and simplify the soldering process. Learn about sweat soldering, butt soldering and pick soldering. We will cover tips and tricks and common problems. Learning this skill will open up a new world of opportunities for your jewelry making. Go home with a new pendent or earrings to wear.

Spinner Ring Class – on hold
Create a spinner ring in Argentium Sterling Silver! Lean the basics of cutting, soldering, texturing, and forming a basic band ring in Argentium. This technique is the basis for many ring styles. In this class we will take it a step further and create a stack of rings that can then float around the main band to create a spinner ring, also known as a meditation or fidget ring. Leave with your new creation on your finger or make one for a friend. You should have some experience with a torch and soldering for this class.

Forging, Fusing and Tube Setting, Oh My! Copper and silver pendant – on hold
Learn how to move metal to make organic shapes, fuse Argentium silver to copper and tube set a faceted stone. This is an intermediate project. We will start by hammering heavy copper to gain shaping, then fuse accent silver lines on to the pendant. We will finish with soldering tube settings and setting faceted stones. This is a whirlwind project, with lots of torch work.
